With the demand for diesel cars increasing due to the difference in fuel prices between petrol and diesel, every car maker is trying to launch the diesel version of their successful models.
The good news is that there are lot of diesel cars lined up for launch in the coming years. Some cars are in design stage and others in early production stage.
Below shows the list of diesel cars that are expected to be launched in the coming years.
Hyundai is planning a diesel engine variant for its successful compact hatchback i10.
The korean carmaker will use its 1.1 litre diesel engine to power i10. You would be aware that Hyundai sells diesel i10 cars in Europe and a modified version of its 1.1 litre diesel engine will be used here in India.
This car is expected to cost around Rs.80,000 - Rs 90,000 more than its petrol variant and will be launched in 2013.
Honda is working hard to bring diesel engine sedan version for Brio in April 2013. Though little late, Honda started thinking of launching diesel cars in future due to its rising demand.
Brio sedan is likely to be powered by a 1.2 litre or 1.5 litre diesel engine featuring Honda's i DTec technology. It is expected to measure less than 4 meters like the new Maruti Swift DZire or Tata Indigo CS. More details from Honda awaited. Honda will use diesel engines for other models such as Brio hatchback, Jazz and city.
Chevrolet Sail Hatchback/Sedan Diesel
Sail is another promising hatchback diesel from Chevrolet that is going to replace U-Va. Its sedan version will also be launched to replace Aveo. Both the new cars will have the much popular 1.3 litre Fiat Multijet diesel engine. Click here for more details.
Tata Nano Diesel
Another much awaited car in 2013 is the diesel version of Tata's small wonder Nano.
Nano diesel will be powered by 700cc DICOR engine , developed with the help of Bosch.
Mahindra Verito Hatchback
Mahindra is expected to launch the diesel hatchback model of Verito sedan. New hatchback will share the same platform as of Verito sedan and will be powered by 1.5 litre dCi engine having a displacement of 1461cc..
The probable ones from Maruti Suzuki to be launched in the coming years :
Maruti WagonR Diesel and Maruti 800
Maruti Suzuki is likely to launch the diesel Wagon R powered by 1000cc fiat diesel engine. No clear information is being given about its specification or even the launch date.
Similarly, its is heard that Maruti will bring out 800cc diesel car in 2015. If it is true, then this car might become the much sought after entry level hatchback car in India.

Honda going diesel surely says that something good is going to come.
